"While black and white vintage photos and Grey Poupon in the table caddies can't keep the flat screens and vinyl-checked tablecloths from screaming "buffalo wings" (a call that's answered, naturally), the menu at this neighborhood haunt extends beyond pub grub to Italian dishes, barbecue, and even sushi. Fresh ingredients compensate for any overexertions by the kitchen staff, who seem equally committed to quantity and quality. The crimson sauce of Spaghetti Bolognese with chunks of ground beef and flecks of fresh parsley may not be strictly Milanese, but a second-generation Italian mom in New Jersey could be rightfully proud of it; each bite of Chicken Saltimbocca reveals an essence of sage that carries over to its firm steamed veggies; and fish arrives daily for the deftly rolled sushi. Some basics need tweaking: the broiled salmon po' boy is served on a mushy roll; the coleslaw is bland. But a friendly vibe makes up for any lapses in flavor, and underscores the familial goal of this un-hip culinary mishmash: to please sports fans lingering at the bar, kids smearing BBQ sauce on their parents, and Battery Park residents looking to satisfy all their gustatory cravings."
